You live my children in the cradle of time
where whirlwinds have blown on earth as in heaven
and long ago ancestors have blended your line
their endurance and glories affording your leaven.

Never ignore your jigsaw of history
never forget your legends of heroes
for where will you learn of courage and victory
if history’s in ruins and nobody knows.

You dwell in the arms of whoever still lives
no matter the scale of their fears and their failings,
you learn from the telling of who were your tribes
across which oceans your life came sailing.

Listen for you are the links with your child
to launch him securely to his beyonding
for you are the one who will tame his wild
to forge his forever ancestral bonding.
